Odor discrimination using adaptive resonance theory

چکیده
Ž . The paper presents two neural networks based on the adaptive resonance theory ART for the recognition of several odors subjected Ž . to drift. The neural networks developed by Grossberg supervised and unsupervised have been used for two different drift behaviors. One in which the clusters end up to overlap each other and the other when they do not. The latter case is solved by unsupervision, which is useful to track the moving clusters and possibly discover new odors autonomously. q 2000 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights reserved.

Pavlovian conditioning enhances resistance to disruption of dogs performing an odor discrimination.
Domestic dogs are used to aid in the detection of a variety of substances such as narcotics and explosives. Under real-world detection situations there are many variables that may disrupt the dog's performance. Prior research on behavioral momentum theory suggests that higher rates of reinforcement produce greater resistance to disruption, and that this is heavily influenced by the stimulus-rei...
متن کاملAversive learning enhances perceptual and cortical discrimination of indiscriminable odor cues.
Learning to associate sensory cues with threats is critical for minimizing aversive experience. The ecological benefit of associative learning relies on accurate perception of predictive cues, but how aversive learning enhances perceptual acuity of sensory signals, particularly in humans, is unclear. We combined multivariate functional magnetic resonance imaging with olfactory psychophysics to ...
متن کاملINTEGRATED ADAPTIVE FUZZY CLUSTERING (IAFC) NEURAL NETWORKS USING FUZZY LEARNING RULES
The proposed IAFC neural networks have both stability and plasticity because theyuse a control structure similar to that of the ART-1(Adaptive Resonance Theory) neural network. The unsupervised IAFC neural network is the unsupervised neural network which uses the fuzzyleaky learning rule. This fuzzy leaky learning rule controls the updating amounts by fuzzymembership values. The supervised IAFC ...
متن کاملGeneralization, discrimination, and multiple categorization using adaptive resonance theory
The internal competition between categories in the adaptive resonance theory (ART) neural model can be biased by replacing the original choice function by one that contains an attentional tuning parameter under external control. For the same input but different values of the attentional tuning parameter, the network can learn and recall different categories with different degrees of generality,...

OBJECTIVE To investigate changes of olfactory bulb (OB) volume over time in relation to olfactory function. DESIGN Prospective, before-after trial. SETTING Outpatient clinic of a university clinic for otorhinolaryngology. PATIENTS A total of 20 patients with olfactory loss participated in the study. The duration of olfactory deficits ranged from 3 months to 6 years. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE...
